October 2019
One-year ago, I walked into the Children’s Hospital Foundation of Manitoba offices and was embraced by what passion our donors and volunteers have for this organization. I was inspired by the incredible staff both in the Foundation and around the hospital and research institute.
But what moved me most, were the kids that we are helping to support. Kids like Gianna who was born the size of a cell phone, or Abigail who is in remission from a cancer-like disease that keeps on fundraising to give back to the hospital that helped save her life. Carson who walks a mile each year for every year he’s been alive after having heart surgery, completing 14 miles last year!
Behind the scenes, we’ve been working hard establishing a five-year strategic plan that will take child health in Manitoba to new heights. On Tuesday, October 8th, Gerry & Barb Price announced their commitment to join in this plan to create a world-class Children’s Hospital-HSC Winnipeg Heart Centre. Their $2.5 million donation will see their sons memory honoured as we name the Travis Price Heart Centre. And the Price family will not stop there. They are currently assisting our Foundation in fundraising so we can complete this project ASAP.
This morning, the Children’s Hospital Book Market made a presentation to the Foundation and the hospital seeing the purchase of 70 brand-new television sets to replace the boxes that are awkward there. Their generosity will witness the purchase of more resources for the Children’s Hospital-HSC Winnipeg Library, Family Resource Library, and CHTV – the non-commercialized, internal television station, and bereavement packages providing the resources when times are beyond difficult.
Today I’m pleased to share with you our refreshed look and feel. I hope as you watch this video, you will be inspired to get involved.
Why have we refreshed our look? We’re changing and with it engaging the community to get involved and make anything possible for our kids. Over the next few months, I will be publishing a monthly behind-the-scenes column in the Winnipeg Free Press to enlighten and hopefully inspire you to become a part of our team – a team for change. Whether it’s volunteering your time, leading your company to join the employee giving, or hosting your own fundraising event, I encourage you to be that change maker. How can you help inspire a community? Let’s talk. Feel free to reach out to me at sgrande@goodbear.ca. Let’s make anything possible.
For the kids,
Stefano Grande
