Gift in your Will

Your legacy can give children a future

Legacy gifts fund life-saving equipment, leading-edge research and vital programs to provide comfort during difficult times. You can help make sure this funding continues for the future by remembering the Children’s Hospital Foundation in your will.

“I hope that my gift in my estate will make a difference to another child like Kianna.” – PAUL

By committing a future gift, you will be invited to join the Annie A. Bond Legacy Circle, a special group of donors who have included the Children’s Hospital Foundation of Manitoba in their will or estate plan.

Whether you want to reduce taxes within your estate or on capital gains, or receive an income for life or an immediate tax benefit, there’s an option that’s right for you.

“Oh, please do it! The Hospital strives daily to provide excellent healthcare and is making real advances in medicine through ongoing research. Their goal is to have all children well, happy and on the road to becoming healthy, functioning adults. Legacy gifts will make that happen.”

How do I include a gift in my Will?

The easiest way to include a gift is to get professional help from a legal advisor. We would be happy to help you find a suitable expert, and can also ensure that your donation will be used as you intend by providing suggested bequest wording to review with your advisor. You can also donate stocks through your will and receive tax savings for your estate, or distribute shares from the estate of a will for which you are executor.

Legal Name: Children’s Hospital Foundation of Manitoba
Registration Number: 11885 2490 RR0001

To discuss the option that is best for you, please contact Courtney Nodrick at (204) 894-9043 or cnodrick@goodbear.ca

Please seek expert advice. Children’s Hospital Foundation of Manitoba recommends you consult your lawyer or estate planner regarding specific wording for a gift in your will to ensure your financial goals are considered, your tax situation is reviewed, and your planned gift is tailored to your circumstances.

Gift of securities

Give more in a tax-effective way

You can make a difference in the lives of sick and injured children and their families by donating publicly listed securities (stocks, bonds and mutual funds) to Children’s Hospital Foundation of Manitoba. These gifts support life-saving research and care at HSC Children’s Hospital, while reducing your taxes.

A donation receipt will be issued for the fair market value of the security at day’s end on the date of transfer. A Certified Investment Broker is needed to legally make the transfer of securities to The Children’s Hospital Foundation of Manitoba. The gift will not qualify for the elimination of capital gains tax if the securities are sold and the cash then gifted to the Foundation.

Complete the form below and ask your broker to initiate the transfer. If you do not have a broker, please send the completed form directly to your delivering institution.

Gifts of life insurance:

Taking an existing policy you no longer need or purchasing a new policy is an inexpensive way to make a larger gift where you’ll see an immediate tax benefit.

Gifts of real estate:

A gift of real estate allows you to give an immediate gift and receive a charitable tax receipt for the property’s fair market value. Gifts of real estate include principal residences, farms, land and commercial properties.

Charitable gift annuities:

Charitable gift annuities are an ideal choice if you are concerned about the amount of tax that you are now paying on your interest-bearing investments. Annuities are high quality, guaranteed investments that provide regular payments to you and/or your spouse.

Charitable remainder trusts:

A charitable remainder trust allows you to donate assets through a trust agreement by contributing bonds, stock securities, mutual funds or real estate to a trustee who holds and manages the contribution.

Gifts of residual interest:

You can donate real estate to the Foundation and continue to live in it/ use it. This allows you as a donor to reduce current income tax while ensuring the Children’s Hospital Foundation of Manitoba has ownership of the property for future interest. The gifted property is removed from your final estate which also eliminates future probate costs, legal and executor fees for that gift.

Endowment funds:

You can leave a gift that keeps on giving by setting up an endowment fund. Consult a financial advisor to invest your donation and accumulate interest while keeping the principle intact.
