December 2019
It’s that time of year where we take time to reflect on 2019 with gratitude. Whether it was a fantastic year in business, a loved one successfully fighting an illness or a well-received paper at school, it’s these moment of gratitude that we celebrate.
Here at the HSC Winnipeg Children’s Hospital and at the Children’s Hospital Research Institute of Manitoba, we get to see moments of gratitude each day. Whether it’s a high five from a child to a doctor for having a great appointment, a research accomplishment taking one more step towards unlocking a child disease mystery or a child fighting cancer receiving a bravery bead – it’s moments like this that we treasure.
Moments of gratitude
In this season of giving, it’s essential to take that time to thank those around you who support and guide you. Recently, through the Children’s Hospital Gratitude program, two families came forward to recognize two of our staff members – Nurse Laurel and Dr. Colin, and thank them for their tremendous support. One father stated in his letter “The moment he was taken into the operating room, we as parents wait and hope for everything to work out. We appreciate everything you did to get him back to us.”
This program is a true gem here. It’s a place where families can recognize anyone from the hospital. In turn, that medical specialist receives a card and pin that they can wear on their lanyard to always remind them of how you took the time to show them you care.
Twice the life-saving value
Last month, a generous donor came forward to show his gratitude in a different way. He was so grateful for the care that his daughter received that he donated $100,000. He had just one attachment: This money was to be used as a match. So until December 31st, at 11:59:59 p.m., when you give to the Children’s Hospital Foundation of Manitoba, your donation will be matched. That’s twice the life-saving value. The funds raised will be used to purchase life-saving specialized equipment in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit. We are currently $50,000 away from our goal.
If you want to share your story, thank a doctor, nurse or allied health professional for the fantastic care your child received, or make a donation in honour of someone, look at the multiple ways to show gratitude. Let’s pay it forward and create moments of appreciation that will be cherished forever.
Please share your stories on how you are giving back to your Children’s Hospital and Research Institute this holiday season. Tag us @CHFManitoba or send them directly to me at sgrande@goodbear.ca.
Let’s make anything possible.
For the kids,
