Stefano’s Stories: DOUBLE your impact for kids

During the holiday season, it’s so inspiring to see generous donors step up and give back. Community Champions like Ken Talbot and his family, truly lead the way.

The K + P Talbot Community Fund and the Talbot Family Foundation will match holiday gifts to Children’s Hospital Foundation of Manitoba this season, for the third year in a row.

“We’re keeping up our support for Children’s Hospital again this year- because we know that they’re keeping up their support for our kids,” says Ken Talbot.

Ken and his family care deeply about making a meaningful impact for the 140,000 kids who rely on HSC Children’s Hospital each year.

“Children are the very heart of our community – and so is our Children’s Hospital,” says Ken. 

At the Foundation, we’re so grateful for donors and families who put their heart into helping others. Families like Haylie’s, who have shared their story to inspire support.

“Both Mike and our daughter, Haylie, are alive today because of the knowledge and care we have received at Children’s Hospital,” says Jayme, Haylie’s mom.

When Haylie was first born, she struggled to breathe and was rushed to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at HSC Children’s Hospital.  She was unable to stay awake or drink more than 1-2 ounces of milk at a time.

When one of Haylie’s doctors noticed Mike had a congenital disorder called Hirschsprung’s Disease (HD), a specialist performed a biopsy and confirmed Haylie has the same condition.

Since Haylie’s diagnosis, she has had a total of 30 surgical procedures and has spent over 200 nights in Children’s Hospital.

“Children’s Hospital is our safe place. When Haylie has been very sick, we know when we take her there, she will get the proper treatment.”

Right now, our children’s hospital needs life-saving surgical equipment to continue providing the best care possible for kids like Haylie, including tools like ENT microscopes that allow surgeons to perform very precise and delicate procedures.
