Events on hold due to COVID-19

Children’s Hospital Book Market and Teddy Bears’ Picnic remain on hold due to pandemic

Winnipeg, MB (March 8, 2022) – The Children’s Hospital Foundation of Manitoba is announcing that the Children’s Hospital Book Market and the Teddy Bears’ Picnic remain on hold due to COVID-19. The Foundation expects to be able to provide further updates on community events in the coming months.

Prior to 2020, the Children’s Hospital Book Market would raise between $300,000 – $500,000 each year to fund programs that comfort kids in hospital like music therapy, libraries and the playroom. The Book Market was suspended in spring of 2020 due to public health restrictions and volunteers have been unable to gather to collect and sort books needed for the sale.

The Teddy Bears’ Picnic attracts crowds of up to 40,000 people and there hasn’t been an opportunity to plan an event of that magnitude, due to ongoing COVID-19 challenges.  Staff vital to running picnic features, like the Dr. Goodbear Clinic, are still needed to attend to urgent needs in the hospital and community.

Fundraising events, such as the Children’s Hospital Book Market, are essential to supporting the 130,000 kids who need HSC Winnipeg Children’s Hospital each year. The Foundation is grateful to generous donors who have continued to make contributions during this difficult time.
