Your support will allow pediatric experts at HSC Children’s Hospital to serve as many kids as possible, with life-saving tools, in spaces that allow childhood and healing to co-exist.

Whether it’s a child facing a one-time, low-risk procedure, or a child dealing with a chronic condition, surgery can be overwhelming.

Every year, 6,000 operations are done by the Pediatric Surgery Department at HSC Children’s Hospital. Over the years, its operating rooms have faced more surgeries than it can reasonably accommodate, many of them with complex requirements, and increased wait times. The pandemic made the problem worse, creating a significant surgical backlog.

Your support will help kids like Pacey, who has needed over 30 surgeries at HSC Children’s due to intestinal failure.

You can give experts the equipment they need to serve kids best.

There are over 85,000 clinic visits each year and heath care teams need equipment and diagnostic tools to continue providing children with the best care possible.

Surgical equipment needs include:

• video-otoscopes
• flexible nasolaryngoscopes and other examination tools
• stainless steel surgical tools
• operating room microscopes
• Other critical items for children recovering from surgery, such as lifts, wheelchairs, and more

You can give a comforting environment to kids when they need it most.

Many of our young patients come from remote Manitoba, and as far away as Nunavut and Northwestern Ontario. Some kids identify as members of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community, while others are new to Canada and don’t speak English or French. Cheery colours, soft shapes, and child-sized furniture can go a long way in helping kids feel safe and comfortable. When kids feel secure, they can process their experiences and have improved outcomes.
