Winnipeg, MB (Oct 29, 2025) — Yesterday, Hyundai Hope on Wheels announced a $100,000 donation to the Children’s Hospital Foundation of Manitoba, made possible through the generosity of Hyundai Auto Canada and its network of 225 dealers nationwide. Additionally, Winnipeg Hyundai announced a $25,000 donation to The Children’s Hospital Foundation of Manitoba. These contributions will help fund oncology care programs and services for pediatric cancer patients and survivors at HSC Children’s Hospital. In recognition of the donation, the hospital will name a treatment room in its pediatric oncology and transplant unit.

“We’re incredibly fortunate to stand here today in support of the dedicated healthcare team at HSC Children’s Hospital, and to honour the journey of the children and families facing this difficult path,” says Kirk Merrett, director of human resources and administration, and executive administering Hyundai Hope on Wheels in Canada. “Witnessing their strength and resilience continues to inspire our unwavering commitment to this cause.”

HSC Children’s Hospital plays a vital role in supporting pediatric oncology through funding research, care, and innovation. Each year, around 50 children in Manitoba are diagnosed with cancer, making it the leading disease-related cause of death among children. To address this, the Foundation backs initiatives like Pediatric Research in Oncology in Manitoba: Innovation, Science, Excellence (PROMISE), led by experts from the Children’s Hospital Research Institute of Manitoba and CancerCare Manitoba. This multidisciplinary research effort aims to improve outcomes and quality of life for young cancer patients by translating scientific discoveries into clinical care.

“For kids who spend weeks or months in hospital, these rooms become their world,” says Stefano Grande, president and CEO of the Children’s Hospital Foundation of Manitoba. “We’re reimagining what a hospital room can be – a place where children feel comfort, courage, and hope, and where families can stay close every step of the way. The incredible generosity of our donors, like Hyundai Hope on Wheels and Winnipeg Hyundai, is making that vision possible.”

The hospital serves children from Manitoba, Northwestern Ontario, and Nunavut, making it a key regional hub for pediatric care, providing care to over 140,000 pediatric patients annually, across various subspecialties including oncology.

“The powerful stories that unite us and inspire action are the threads that strengthen the fabric of our Winnipeg community,” says Chris Dyck, president of Winnipeg Hyundai. “I’m truly grateful to work alongside such a dedicated team and to serve a community that shares my values. It’s an honour to stand with Hyundai Canada in supporting a future where every child facing cancer has access to the best possible care, close to home.”

The donation was commemorated with Hyundai Hope on Wheels’ signature Handprint Ceremony, which was generously hosted at Winnipeg Hyundai. Children and families impacted by cancer left their handprints on the Hyundai Hope vehicle, a powerful symbol of resilience and unity in the fight against pediatric cancer. The event brought together representatives from Hyundai Canada, Local Hyundai dealers, The Children’s Hospital Foundation of Manitoba, and HSC Children’s Hospital medical staff to show their support for those on the frontlines of this critical battle.
