Helping our Smallest Patients

$77,761 of $334,590 Raised

The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) is a special place where our medical teams perform nothing short of miracles.

It’s important to ensure these special people have every tool they need — every piece of equipment that we can possibly give them.

The doors to our brand-new NICU will be thrown open shortly and many of the pieces of equipment in there have been sponsored by your generosity. There are still a few pieces of essential equipment that our teams need though.

Vein Finder

The use of new technology Veinfinders is a beneficial tool for viewing veins prior to starting an IV or PIC for first attempt success. It assists with peripheral IV access in children and improves the first time success rate for IV access. Improved visualization of veins also reduced the number of attempts and the time required for PIC placement. The AccuVein is a vein finder that allows you to quickly find a patient’s vein without undue hassle or trauma to the patient.

This can be particularly helpful for those patients with difficult venous access (DVA). By simply holding the AccuVein about seven inches above the skin, the vasculature is clearly displayed.

The NICU is in need of three new AccuVein Veinfinders, at a cost of $7,250 each.

Cribs

The NICU is in need of four cribs for babies who are in less critical care, which will free up our specialized beds for young patients who have more serious conditions. Each crib costs $17,500.

Bili Blu Phototherapy Lights

Phototherapy is the use of light to treat newborn jaundice. Newborn jaundice is due to the presence of higher than normal level of bilirubin (an orange-yellow pigment that occurs normally when part of your red blood cells break down) in blood. Without the lights, they risk not being able to treat the high-risk infants for jaundice.

The NICU is in need of three Bili Blu Phototherapy Lights, at a cost of $9,528 each.

Omni-Beds

The Omni-Bed is for premature babies in the NICU.

The Omni-Bed allows care-givers easier access to position the baby for clinical procedures and ensures they get it right the first time which lessens the movement of the baby and ultimately promotes steady development.

The NICU is in need of three new Omni-Beds, at a cost of $65,000 each.
